Peachtree Road Race

My husband, Steven, has been running the Peachtree Road Race since 1996, and has participated in it every year since then, with the exception of last year (2009). We are in our mid-fifties, now, and it honestly does get a little harder each year.

I used to think that I would never be able to participate in the 10K Road Race. That's 6.2 miles, for crying out loud! However, four years ago, I trained, and I did it. I walked most of it, but I did it! There honestly was a "sea of people" all along Peachtree Road. The energy of the crowd was unbelievable. It took me one hour and forty-five minutes to cross the finish line.

For three years in a row, I did it, and each time got a fraction shorter. We did not participate last year, but our goal is to be there in 2010! If you have never participated in this event, I encourage you to do so. There's such a diverse group of people in the race. All ages, all sizes, and different speeds. I noticed in 2008, there were many more people walking, so that made me feel better about being a slow poke. But the thing is, as with anything worth while in life, you train, prepare, set goals, look forward to it ,and then you do it! It's quite an accomplishment, and I am looking forward to getting back out there this year!

This is my first blog ... let's see how it turns out!

My husband, Steven, and I, recently purchased two sit-on-top kayaks by Native Watercraft. If they had been around twenty-years ago, we would have purchased them twenty-years ago.

We are quite taken with the kayaks, and so is our little "Yogi." Our other dog, Rocky, weighs 92 pounds. We may have to get a small kayak to pull him along behind us so he can join in on the fun, too.

We recently kayaked on the Chattahoochee at Azalea Park, off Roswell Road. The water is calm, unless the wind is whipping up some small whitecaps, and it's a beautiful experience. I like the fact that the water is not too deep in areas, and I can see the bottom. It's fun to get out and walk around with your kayak, and it serves to cool you down quite a bit, too. It was especially nice on the weeked that we had temperatures reaching 97 degrees!

Lake Allatoona is nice, but sometimes just too many boats are out. For quiet, peaceful kayaking, Lake Acworth is nice. If you are brave, then you might want to check out the video of me pretending to be in a musical out of the '40s! If I had known there would be sound, I would have sung the made up song a little better!
